The bottom line is this; typically ID is required at some point in the
registration process. There is really no value add to make anybody show it on election day; even if it's required and you don't have it with you, you can still cast a provisional ballot which will get counted eventually. If you have to make a copy of it to apply for an absentee ballot or to send in with your ballot, then it becomes another hurdle if you don't have a copier or a scanner or if you have to run over to Kinko's. You can accomplish the same with your signature. If you have to have witnesses it becomes another hurdle. If you limit drop boxes, yet another. If you make people vote in person but provide two voting machine for 500K people, you can expect lines, which is hard for people who work. If you try to have fun in line, or heaven forbid hand out food and water that's a no-no apparently. Heaven forbid that you drive voters to the polls! I mean there's a reason these laws restrict the activities of third parties.
It's all cumulative. Make it harder, make it more time consuming, in the hopes that you suppress just enough people that the minority wins. Transparent as fuck. In the case of Florida, which of course Trump won and DeSantis squeaked by, they must be pretty worried about future votes. Texas, too.
